A Weekend at DragonCon 2019

I’m back home after a fantastic DragonCon weekend in Atlanta, GA! The weekend included quite a few panels with amazing authors and artists! On top of learning about several stories in the works that sound really interesting, I also received quite a bit of advice on everything from writing to publishing to marketing.

I kicked off the weekend by watching “Ready Player One” in one of the video rooms (I recommend it if you haven’t seen it). Then, the panels contained a lot of good information. Some of it pertained to marketing, and using social media to market. One of the best pieces of advice to come from that was: “The best way to market your book is by writing your next book.” As someone currently working on drafting the initial drafts of the books in my series, I find that a heartening piece of advice.

I received some advice on self-publishing from John G. Hartness, who started out self-publishing before creating his current small press, Falstaff Books. I also recieved som advice for finding an editor from Janny Wurts, author of the “Wars of Light and Shadow” series, which I am eagerly looking forward to reading.

While there were several of my favorite authors who couldn’t be there this year, I did enjoy seeing a few of the authors I’ve seen at previous DragonCons. And hey, I even got to meet up with one of my friends who lives in the area. Good times all around!

Thanks for reading! If you have any question about my DragonCon experience, or wish to share one of your Con experiences I would love to hear from you!

  1. So cool!
I was gonna go in 2005, but our unit got called to Katrina. I had a first edition of “Dragons of Winter Night” and the authors were gonna be there… gah.
Catch up with me soon. Been kinda just sitting here not writing. Shame on me. SHAME.

    1. Oh wow. That’s fair. I think Tracy Hickman was actually there this year, too.

And yeah, definitely. It’s been a while. And fair. I’ve been doing a good bit of writing, and plotting, and all kinds of stuff.
