Welcome to the final part of my Early Huevember 2022 series. The official challenge for the year begins in less than one day. As such, I wanted to make sure I finished posting this set before I start posting the new set. I will be participating in both National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and Huevember, so that should make for an interesting month, to say the least. For now, though, the art.
Overview
These paintings allowed me to finish out my color wheel that is Huevember. I had a pretty good time with these, although the shift from green to yellow did make some of the topics a bit difficult to decide. Overall, I think they turned out well.
Days 25 to 30
You can find the individual paintings below, with some assorted blurbs from my experience of painting them.
Day 25: “Just a Frog on a Log”
This was another case of using someone’s favorite animal for inspiration. I figured a nice close up of a frog would be nice, and a log just seemed like the natural place to put a frog. I had a bit of fun with this one, particularly with the pattern on the frog. I knew I wanted a pattern that would show off the contrast between the darker and brighter greens, but I also wanted a pattern that wasn’t something found in nature.
Day 26: “Is This Sufficiently Irish?”
I was having trouble picking something for this color until I got the suggestion of shamrocks. However, since I didn’t just want to do a big shamrock in the middle, I opted for a triquetra. I used this painting as an opportunity to practice some shading and highlights, trying to add some dimension to the triquetra. Admittedly, it was probably not the easiest shape to attempt shading, but I think it turned out well. The shamrocks all around and the background that shifted from dark green to light green completed the look I was going for: Very, very Irish.
Day 27: “Let’s Try This Again.”
The idea for this painting mostly came from a desire to do what I didn’t quite manage with “After All that Hard Work…” on Day 23 of my early Huevember attempt. I opted for more of a plaid background, with the kind of “standard” decorations of a vase with flowers, and a potted plant. I thought the bird on the edge of the pot would b a nice touch, as well as an opportunity to get a little bit of bright green as an accent.
Day 28: “Nature at Peace”
For this painting, I thought the green would work well for a nature scene, and I figured it had been a little while since I’d done a Bob Ross-style landscape. Overall, I think it turned out well. I did try to tweak some of my brushes to give certain things a bit more of a natural look.
Day 29: “Fireflies in the Trees”
Honestly, this is not my favorite yellow. This also took a while to come up with an idea, though eventually my husband suggested fireflies. This actually turned out a bit darker than I initially intended, but I really liked the idea of trees in the distance with fireflies all over the place.
Day 30: “Now for Something Different”
This is also not my favorite yellow, and after twenty-nine days of doing all kinds of other paintings, I wanted to do something different. I liked the symmetry tool, and I thought it might be fun to try something with. It took a few attempts to get a pattern I liked, and the colors starting bright in the center and shifting to paler and darker as it went toward the outer edge seemed to be a nice effect.
Final Thoughts
This final set of paintings provided a bit of a challenge. There were a couple things that came to mind with some of the colors, but others I wasn’t entirely sure what to do. I kind of went a different direction with a couple of these, particularly when the hue shifted back toward yellow. Overall, I think these paintings turned out well, and I had fun doing them, so that’s always a bonus. I also think I learned a good bit, throughout this whole process. I’m excited to see where things go next.
