Update: Week of 31 Oct 2022

Hello, everyone! And Happy NaNoWriMo Eve (for those participating in the NaNoWriMo challenge this November).

If you are interested in seeing my recent posts about my early/impromptu Huevember attempt, the full series can be found at the following links:

I will be posting a page where you can see all of the paintings together later this evening.

Now, for this week’s update. As I mentioned above, NaNoWriMo starts on 1 Nov. I’m currently counting the hours. I have made some progress with my writing. I also finished all of the prep work I wanted to get done for Huevember. With a bit of luck that will make the month go a bit more smoothly than my initial attempt at the challenge. I’ve even managed to make progress with my Irish lessons, so overall, it’s been a pretty good week.

My writing this week mostly consisted of continuing to draft Book 11. I did also spend a bit of time outlining Book 12, though I suspect the majority of that will happen concurrently with finishing Book 11 during NaNoWriMo. Overall, I am pleased with how things are coming together, and I’m thinking I should be in pretty good shape to both finish Book 11 and start Book 12 during NaNo.

My reading for this week has been a bit lighter than normal due to assorted other projects. That said, I did start reading Michael R. Miller’s Unbound, the second book of his Songs of Chaos series. I am curious to see where it goes, but I have not currently made it too far into the book yet.

A decent bit of time this week has gone toward prepping for Huevember. For the most part, that entailed choosing subjects for my paintings (mostly a mix of real animals and mythical creatures), figuring out what order I want to do them in (mostly based on the color of the day, but not completely) and doing some rough sketches to work out things like poses. After experiencing difficulties with trying to decide those kinds of things on short notice during my Early Huevember attempt, I wanted to try to minimize those difficulties as much as I could. I’m currently feeling fairly confident about this challenge.

My “100 Day Gaeilge Challenge” is almost done (though I intend to continue learning Irish after this). I’m currently on day 90, so only 10 more days. I’m fairly pleased with what I’ve done this week. I’ve learned at least a few new words, and I’ve gotten in a bit of review. All in all, I can’t complain.

As for this upcoming week, things should be interesting. With NaNoWriMo starting, I plan to be in “go” mode for my writing. I’m hoping to get a good head start on the month. Other than that, I will be starting the official Huevember challenge, hopefully with a good line up of paintings. I’m not sure I will have much time to read, but I’m planning to at least make a little bit of progress with Unbound. I’m also hoping to get in a bit more Irish practice so I can finish my 100 days strong for this next week-and-a-half. I’ve also got a visit with family planned, so that might make some of this a little more interesting, but it should all be a good time.

If you would like to add me as a writing buddy on the NaNoWriMo website, my name on the site is fantasy_writer42, and you can find my profile here.

That seems to be everything for this update! As always, thanks for reading!

~ Theresa
