Hello, everyone! I hope this finds y’all well.
This past week has been nicely productive, and I think I might be getting into a bit of a rhythm with certain things, including writing. Most of that has to do with several folks on my local Discord server for NaNoWriMo. Near the end of the month a few people were talking about how difficult it is to find time to write on a regular basis. A few of us decided to form the “one sentence a day” club.
The one-sentence goal was formed with the idea, as I understand it, that one of the more difficult things to do on a daily basis is to convince yourself to sit down and write. This is particularly true when daily life finds a way to throw enough tasks at you that you don’t feel like you have the energy or motivation to add one more thing to the list. However, “one sentence a day” is short enough that you can do that in a minute or two. That has come in handy for the couple times when I realize that it was almost midnight and I hadn’t written my sentence yet.
The other benefit to the “one sentence a day” is that if you have already sat down to write your one sentence, it is a lot easier for the words to continue flowing. I have found that I am normally three sentences in before I even realize it. Just this past week, I have had a couple days where that one sentence led to a handful of sentences, and a few days where that one sentence led me to write several paragraphs for the day. My average word count for the week worked out to about 300 words per day, even with a few days where I didn’t write. Each day, I sat down telling myself I was going to write one sentence.
In other news, I am still working my way through the book I mentioned (and provided a bit longer assessment of my take on things) in last week’s update. Sundered by Bethany Adams is still going down fairly nicely for me. There are actually several elements of the magic system and such that are a bit reminiscent of other series I have read or watched, including some of the anime I’ve been watching the last few years.
My final primary project for this past week was finishing my digital rendition of Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I managed to complete that goal last night, and I plan to post it on this site later this week. I am certainly pleased with how it turned out, even if there were several spots during the painting process where I was having trouble seeing how it would all come together. Overall, I am rather pleased with how it all turned out.
The plan for this week is to continue working on Book 9, maintaining the goal of one sentence per day. I figure I will see where that takes me over all. It might be just enough motivation to keep things flowing nicely. I’m also planning to continue reading Sundered. Other than that, I’m trying to decide what my next painting should be… to be fair, that might be finishing the painting started before I found the tutorial for painting Starry Night.
I think that about sums up everything for this update. Thanks for reading!
