Update: Week of 13 Feb 2023

Hello, everyone! I hope this finds you well. Hard to believe we’re halfway through February.

This past week has been decently productive for me. I’ve spent a bit of time writing and reading, which is always fun. I’ve also made a little progress toward February Album Writing Month (FAWM). Overall, I am pleased with how things are going.

Writing

I’m making progress on Book 11, and I’ve gotten a bit of research and plotting done this week as well. I think I’ve figured out how to set up the current part of the story to lead into the final book of the series, which I’m excited about. I’ve also done a little bit of worldbuilding that will be incorporated throughout the series. Hopefully, that will help streamline a few things.

Reading

This week’s reading has been split between two books. I’ve read a little more of Diane Duane’s The Empty Chair, and I’ve started reading Terry Pratchett’s The Color of Magic. It is the first book in the Discworld series, though it’s not the first Discworld book I read. “That honor belongs to Reaper Man, which I do highly recommend.

Art

My art this week has mostly been focused on technique. While I have had some success winging this whole process in order to get a finished piece, this seems like a good time to take a step back and focus on some of the fundamentals. As fun as some of my assorted art challenges have been, I do feel like I’m missing a bit. At the very least, I’d like things to feel a bit more intentional when I sit down to work on art.

February Album Writing Month (FAWM)

My second week of FAWM didn’t quite go as planned. I did write another song, which brings my total for this month to two. It’s a little shy of the halfway goal of seven, but I am rather pleased with how this song turned out. I only had a rough idea for a theme when I started writing it, but it flowed rather nicely once I started. This process is still an interesting worldbuilding exercise, and I am definitely learning certain nuances I did not know before. At this point, I’m not sure if I will reach the goal of “14 songs in 28 days,” but I am interested to see if anything else shakes loose in the coming weeks.

Next Week…

So, this brings us to the plan for next week. Now that I have a better idea of the direction I need to go for Book 11, I’m hoping to get a bit of drafting done on that. I’m hoping to finish reading The Color of Magic before it is due back at the library. Other than those two things, I have a bit of other reading planned, if I can get to it, and I’d like to do a bit more work for FAWM. Beyond that, I don’t have much planned. As such, I’m looking forward to seeing how things go.

Also, Camp NaNoWriMo is coming up in April. Feel free to add me as a writing buddy on the NaNoWriMo website. My name on the site is fantasy_writer42, and you can find my profile here.

That seems to be all for this update! As always, thanks for reading!
