Update: Week of 27 Feb 2023

Hello, everyone! Here we are at the end of February.

I’m fairly pleased with how this past week has gone, particularly with regard to writing. I also made a good bit of progress on my assorted projects, namely art and February Album Writing Month (FAWM).

Writing

I’ve made a good bit of progress with Book 11 this week. Some of that has been actively drafting the book. However, I’ve also spent a good bit of time this week doing a combination of worldbuilding and reworking the outline/timeline for the end of the book. I do feel like I am getting closer to finishing this book, though I highly suspect I will not be finishing it in the next couple days. I’m going to have to see how assorted things fall into place and then reassess what my “deadline” is for finishing this draft. Hopefully, it will be soon. All in all, though, I do think this week has been productive.

Reading

With regard to reading, I’ve mostly still been slowly making my way through Terry Pratchett’s The Color of Magic. I do have a few other books I’ve been trying to do a little bit with here and there, but most of my “reading” this week has gone toward research for either book stuff or art.

Art

I have actually made a bit of progress toward one of my goals for art, namely drawing people. While I was looking up assorted things to do with figure drawing, I rediscovered a site called Line of Action that I had come across a while back. Line of Action seems to have a lot of good material for practicing drawing people and animals. So far, I’ve been able to work on a bit of gesture drawing (quick sketches to capture the energy and pose of a figure as a whole). I’ve also spent a bit of time trying to develop a plan for drawing consistently. I still need to figure out a few things with regard to that, but I’d like to build up a habit for my art similar to what I have for my writing.

February Album Writing Month (FAWM)

This week was another slow week for FAWM. As it is, the last day is 28 Feb, and I only have about 4 songs. I’m hoping to make some progress with some of the other ideas I have, though it’s going to be a bit of a toss up whether or not I’ll be able to complete the remaining 10 songs I need. I’m thinking if I can give it a solid push, I should be able to get close. I will have to see how that actually goes, though.

The fact that I am trying to write in-world songs for my series does seem to be causing more than a bit of trouble this FAWM. I do suspect that I have some ideas for assorted cultural things that I’d like to write songs for, but I am having a bit of time getting those ideas to solidify.

In other news, I do happen to be a believer in “it’s not over ’til it’s over,” so here’s hoping I can get some ideas down. 10 songs and a little over 1 day remaining. Let’s do this.

Next Week…

That brings us to this upcoming week. I plan to continue making progress with Book 11. I’d also like to make some progress on the remaining songs for FAWM. Other than that, I’m hoping to finish The Color of Magic and hopefully read a bit more of some of my other “in progress” books. I’m also hoping to get some good drawing practice in, particularly since this upcoming Friday (3 Mar 2023) is another session of “Discovering Dragons,” a community draw hosted by David Petersen on his Twitch and Discord.

Also, Camp NaNoWriMo is coming up in April. Feel free to add me as a writing buddy on the NaNoWriMo website. My name on the site is fantasy_writer42, and you can find my profile here.

That seems to be everything for this update! As always, thanks for reading!
