Update: Week of 5 Jul 2021

Hello! I hope this past week has been good for y’all!

Most of this past week for me has been preparing for Camp NaNoWriMo, and then writing for Camp NaNo over the past few days. At the moment, my word count is a bit behind where I would like it to be, but I am pleased with the words I have gotten down.

I am making progress on Book 9. Currently, I am approaching the halfway point as far as word count, and the story is progressing nicely. I have also been making progress on plotting the final arc of the series. So far, I have put some of the events I know on the outline/in-world timeline, and I’m working on filling things in around those events. Several of those additional events are easy to place, since they flow logically from the other ones I know. Some of the other events will take a bit longer to place. All things considered, there will be some events that I don’t actually place until I start drafting the individual books. There are certainly benefits to having a flexible outline/timeline. (If anyone is interested, the timeline program I use is Aeon Timeline. The ability to set up custom timelines has really come in handy.)

As far as reading, I have been continuing my latest projects. Progress on Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote and Alexandre Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo has been a bit slow, but they have both been enjoyable reads so far. Stephen King’s On Writing is rather interesting. I’m getting into the section that deals with writing advice, and there are some points that he brings up that are similar to other pieces of advice that I’ve heard. That said, I’m trying to be a little more aware of the advice I find. As such, I’ve been reading small sections of On Writing, and then I’ve been letting the advice percolate. So far, that seems to be working well.

For the upcoming week, I will be working toward my goal for Camp NaNo. I intending to use this week to catch up a bit. I will also continue plotting the final arc of the current series since the first book of that arc will be coming after the current book. Other than that, I will try to make a bit more progress on my assorted reading selections. It has also been a little bit since I’ve done much on the crafty side of things, so, I think I might start a new project.

If anyone is interested in being a writing buddy on the NaNoWriMo website, my username there is fantasy_writer42, and you can find me here.

I think that’s about everything I have for this update, but I will definitely be back with another update next week. Thanks for reading!

~ Theresa
